What I did in Paris part II
Remember my previous blog about Paris? There was so much content that I decided to write another blog (yessss) and share our visit to Maison et Objet and give you interesting addresses for embroidery materials…
First time Maison et Objet tradeshow
One of the major events on interior and design and on my list to go too. Main reason for us to visit was to meet designers and companies and to see if this is a good place to show my work in future.
Small mistake we made that we thought the event was in city centre Paris but found out that it was an hour from Pigalle by metro and reverse. Good thing: the event is 5 days long!
A tip when visiting make a list beforehand with people and brands you want to meet or see. It’s a huge venue with like 8 gates and thousands of brands.
What I liked the most? The Craft et Métiers section and Unique & Eclected. The designers and brands in this part of the tradeshow are really into craftmanship, original design and really love to talk with you about their work. I met some nice talented artists.
Some of the talents I really loved: Laure Bénard, Marik Koros, Aude Tahon, Laëtitia Fortin.
On the other hand, if you are more into the well-known bigger brands you find them here too! I saw Vitra, Kartell to name a few.
We visited one day and that was enough for us but you can also wander around in the Food section or Home linen and spend a day extra.

Beads, beads, beads
When in Paris… I want to visit the addresses for embroidery stuff. There is always room for more beads and threads non?
So, here’s my list with some of my favorites:
Fried Freres
The place to be for some serious beads shopping! From floor to ceiling stocked with boxes and drawers filled with beads and sequins in all sizes and colors. They also have materials for goldwork embroidery and everything you need for jewelry making.
I can stay here for hours easily. It’s smart to make a shoppinglist in advance otherwise you end up buying far more for sure! (Guilty..)
Note: It’s wholesale only, with a minimum of €150,- spending and the ladies working there are super nice but don’t speak very well English
Adress: 13 Rue du Caire, 75002 Paris
Au vers au soie
Also known as silk heaven. This is such a lovely place and it oozes history. Not easy to find as it’s hidden in a building (with the most beautiful and ancient elevator!) but so worth checking out.
If you used their threads before, you know how beautiful silk is in your embroidery projects. When you enter the place, it’s feels like a magic attic with yarns and threads everywhere and in all colors you can imagine.
My favourites are soie d’alger and soie de Paris. They split well and shine even more!
Adress: 102 rue Réaumur 75002 Paris
Tissus Reine
Another gem and not too miss because it's practically located next to Mont Martre. Welcome to fabric heaven! Only enter when you are strong enough too resist all the beautiful fabrics in this shop ;)
What they do really great here is that small mannequins are wearing miniature outfits made out of the fabrics they sell. To give you an idea how the fabrics can be used.
Adress: 3 /5 place Saint Pierre Parijs
Well that's it for Paris...for now anyway :) Hope you enjoyed this blog.
